Australia's Premier Young Bird Show & Eastern Classic Annual Show

About Us

The Pigeon Fanciers Society of NSW Inc. was established in 1917. Prior to this there was a Fancy Pigeon club in N.S.W from the late 1880’s to 1909. The PFS held it’s first Show that year. The Society did not have a permanent home but used various Showgrounds and Meeting Rooms until obtaining a permanent home at Fairfield City Showground Poultry and Pigeon Pavilion in 1990. The PFS held very successful Young Bird and Annual Shows in the 1920’s and 1930’s. The Young Bird Show lapsed due to war time conditions and was revived in 1973 at Castle Hill Showground as a single day Show and BBQ for families. It very quickly gained popularity and became the Premier Young Bird Show in Australia.

The PFS holds meetings 3rd Tuesday of each month at Fairfield Poultry and Pigeon Pavilion and stages two major shows each year, the Young Bird Show and the Annual Eastern Classic.

The PFS played a major role in establishing ANPA (Australian National Pigeon Association) with Walter Hitchell (PFS), Graeme Jubb (QPFS), Frank Hayes (MPS) being the prime movers behind the original ANPA Constitution. This was a major undertaking not only for the Standardization of many aspects of the Pigeon Fancy but simply to get all major Clubs to come together without giving up their individuality.

The PFS proudly works in conjunction with the R.A.S (Royal Agricultural Society) to ensure that both Fancy and Racing Pigeons are displayed for the public to see at the Royal Easter Show in Sydney. We are very grateful to Fairfield City Council for the facilities provided and we support both the Fairfield Annual Show (held early September) and the Showgrounds Open Day (held first Sunday of August).

NSW is fortunate in that there has only ever been one major Fancy Pigeon Club with Sydney as its home base, whereas all other States have two Fancy Clubs based in their Capital City. This has assisted us with our membership and the interest we receive from Fanciers throughout Australia. We fully support all of the NSW Regional Clubs and many of their members are also members of the Pigeon Fanciers Society of NSW Inc.
